Day 1: Barcelona

Submitted by Putt:
Wow what a day it was for all of us . We experienced everything from John being robbed to one of the wildest cathedrals in the world. I'm writing this going on 30 hours straight of no sleep. The Europe 11 crew doesn't mess around. After landing, we boarded a bus to the central part of town where we then headed to our hostel. Our hostel in Barcelona is just enough room for 8 people as it has 4 bunk beds and lockers for each person. Anyway, we began our day in Barcelona by eating at a local cafe for breakfast. Richard was almost robbed there, but the waiter got there just in time to run him off delivering a few kicks to the knees. After eating, we proceeded to go to one of the parks that serves as one of the highest points in Barcelona. The view was awesome and John A should have some pix up.
The next event of the day was a crazy one and it really served as a wake up call.  We were heading to the subway which would take us to the cathedral. We reached the subway just in time as it was extremely crowded. John stood about 4 feet from me and the cart was simply stuffed.  Out of nowhere, John G checks his pocket and notices his phone is missing. Panic starts to erupt as he accurately accuses a short local Spaniard of pick pocketing him. The short man Denies it and begins to get aggressive. The man tries to get away and I grab him only having one arm available because the subway is so crowded. He squirms out of my hold and then stands outside of the train still denying. We then all charge at him but he has about a 10 second head start because we were all still stuck in the train. The man gets away an we're all furious. That was definitely the lowlight of the day.
Next, we head to the Sagrada Familia which is one of the finest cathedrals in the world. It's been under construction for about 150 years, yes 150. It was the most detailed work I've ever seen in a building and a truly memorable experience. I'll post some pictures at the bottom.
We concluded the night by eating at a Mexican restaurant and grabbed some groceries on the way back. It turned out to be an excellent day outside of the robbery in the subway.
